Christmas isn’t the only time that we should be creating a list. Creating a list is one of many tools used to ensure your home-based business is organized properly. In traditional business also known as brick and mortar businesses you have a place designated for business. Everything that goes on in that building is for that business, or should be. When you work from home you have so much more going on. You have children, friends, spouse and all too often you can get sidetracked. This is where a list comes into play.

How many times have you had something on your mind then just forgot? How many times have you spent too much of your time on one task just to realize you hadn’t got anything accomplished that day? How many times have you been sitting around and just didn’t know what to do? Don’t let this stop you and hold you back. It happens, I understand. Don’t think that you are the only one this happens to. These are common problems especially when you’re just starting out. It can cost you countless hours of productivity. This is where you must pick up a new skill.
Make your list. Start out yearly, monthly, weekly, then daily. Buy a white board and hang it on a wall where you will see it no matter what. Write out all your daily task on the white board. Time block your task meaning if you can do them both at the same time or one right after another. For example, going to the store to pick up supplies than stop by the bank. This will save you time and keep you more organized.

The solution to this problem is simple, you need to make a yearly, monthly, weekly, and daily checklist. At the beginning of the year everyone does their New Year’s Resolution. You need to do the same for your business. Write down what you want to accomplish this year in your business. Then write out all the steps you must take to get to that goal and organize that monthly. What I mean is every month you are going to complete or hit a goal. Take that and break it down weekly. Finally break it down daily. I use two tricks. I have my planner and I have a white board. On my white board, I write out everything I will accomplish that day. As I accomplish a task I check the box. At the end of the day I look and see how much I accomplished. That will let me know if I’m doing busy work or productive work. I like the white board because it doesn’t take any extra effort for me to look at it. Its big and every time I walk by I cannot miss it. I don’t write anything on my board that will not get me closer to accomplishing my goal. You don’t have to use the white board strategy but you do need to write your task down.
